Why magnetic, not broadcast RF ?
The body gets in the way of radio. It doesn't get in the way of magnetism.
At 2.4 GHz, human tissue is a highly lossy, high-permittivity medium: it absorbs a meaningful share of a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi signal before it ever reaches the other side of the body. Radios compensate with amplification, and amplification costs power. Magnetic fields see the body differently. Tissue is magnetically transparent (relative permeability ≈ 1), so a low-frequency magnetic field couples along the body with far less loss than an equivalent RF signal, and stays close to the body instead of radiating outward. Lower path loss means the radio can run at a fraction of the transmit power for the same link.
